Different Methods Of Shipping Your Car

Cars just like any other product or commodity need to be transported. There are many reasons as to why cars need to be shipped. The manufacturers need to ship cars to their dealers. Sometimes they need to ship them overseas, if they have an overseas market for their products and do not have any manufacturing in those countries. Sometimes companies move their head quarters to other cities and need to have their fleet of vehicles shipped to the city where they have moved to. Sometimes individual people move from one city to another and they want their car shipped to their destination, instead of having to drive the car. Also, cars which compete in races or other car events need them to be transported from one place to another.

When you think of shipping all these cars the first thing that comes to mind is that trailer that you have seen many times going down the road with all those cars on its back. But in actual fact cars are shipped in many different ways depending on the purpose for their shipping and the amount of cars that need to be shipped at one time.

Cars can be shipped by land, sea or air. When you ship cars by land, the auto transport company may ship them either by road on trailers or by rail or may use both forms of transport. The type of transport that shipping companies use when it comes to shipping cars depends on where the cars are shipped from and their final destination. If the distances are not too far and if there is no rail service between the shipping points, the transport company may ship the cars by trailers. But if there is a rail line running near the pick up point or the destination point, the shipping company may use trailers to ship the cars to the rail head or to pick them up from the rail head closest to the destination. If there is a rail line running from the point of pick up to the destination, the shipping company may just load the cars on the trains and move them to their destination.

Cars are transported by ships usually when they need shipping overseas. This is the most common form of transport used by manufacturers when they want to transport large quantity of cars to overseas markets. Transporting cars by ship is also a form of transport used by individuals or companies when the destination for the cars is near a sea port or overseas.

Transporting cars by air is usually done only in case of cars competing in races or events or if the cars are exotic cars or cars being entered into car shows or events.
